چکیده

Distributed dynamic channel allocation techniques are becoming important with the tremendous growth in mobile cellular communication and demand for wireless multimedia applications. These techniques can be categorized as search based or update based. Search based techniques have low messaging complexity and are suited for high system load and low request rates. On the other hand update based schemes have higher messaging complexity but are more suitable for low system load and high request rates. This paper presents a combined scheme, called UpdateSearch, which provides the advantages of both types of schemes. UpdateSearch is parameterized by the number of channel classes k, 1 k n, where n is the total number of channels in the system. The parameter k can be adjusted to control the number of concurrent searches and degree of contention between cells competing for channels in the system. For k = 1 and k = n the scheme respectively behaves as basic search and basic update scheme [1]. A simple analytical model is used to compare the performance of UpdateSearch for various values of k with the basic update and search techniques in terms of channel allocation time and number of simultaneous channel selections allowed in the system under different system loading conditions.

Distributed Dynamic Carrier Allocation in Mobile Cellular Networks: Search vs. Update

There are two approaches for distributed dynamic carrier allocation algorithms: update and search. This paper investigates the fundamental differences between the two approaches. We present two simple, representative schemes, namely the basic update scheme and the basic search scheme. We will argue that for two reasons the update approach is more appropriate for mobile cellular networks that su...

An adaptive distributed channel allocation strategy for mobile cellular networks

A channel allocation algorithm includes a channel acquisition algorithm and a channel selection algorithm. Most of the previous work concentrates on the channel selection algorithm since early channel allocation algorithms simply use a centralized channel acquisition algorithm, which depends on a mobile switching center (MSC) to accomplish channel acquisition. Recently, distributed channel acqu...

Efficient Distributed Channel Allocation for Mobile Cellular Networks

There are two approaches to design a distributed channel allocation algorithms: Search and Update. The update approach has shorter acquisition delay and lower call blocking rate, but higher message complexity. On the other hand, the search approach has lower message complexity, but longer acquisition delay and higher call blocking rate. In this paper, we first propose a novel distributed acquis...

A Fault-Tolerant Dynamic Channel Allocation Scheme for Enhancing QoS in Cellular Networks

In cellular networks, it is vital to allocate communication channels efficiently because the bandwidth allocated for cellular communication is limited. When mobile hosts move from one cell to another cell, to provide uninterrupted service, the new cell should have enough channels to support the ongoing communication of the mobile hosts that moved into the cell. If channels are statically alloca...

On Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks

As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
